don’t get me wrong, i got no problem with transgender individuals. i think everyone’s entitled to live their own lives free from scrutiny of others however they damn well please. but anatomy is anatomy. and as long as you are biologically male, you will be a he, and i will refer to you as such. 

i’ll respect your status as a transgender individual, and treat you accordingly, but i don’t care that you call yourself a woman, if you’re a man, you’ll be referred to and identified by society as one until you change your anatomy…. 

and i fully support your endevour to do such a thing, as long as not a single one of my tax dollars is spent to aid you in the process….

there it is ladies and gentlemen, my unpopular opinion of the day- please no senseless hatemail- pleasantly stimulating intellectual debate? then my ask is wide open, but ignorant anon attacks will not be recognized. 

There are several things wrong with your post.

1. This opinion is not necessarily unpopular, so it does not qualify for your title.

2. You’re incorrect.  Though this opinion is not necessarily unpopular among less educated folk and people similar to those in the Tea Party, it is biologically, medically, psychologically, and sociologically unsound.

3. I don’t believe that anyone died for disagreeing with you.  I am fairly sure, anyway.

4. You have a poor understanding of grammar and punctuation.

5. Proper capitalization is non-existent.

6. This post is a complete contradiction.  You say there you support transgender people.  However, you express the exact opposite of that in the majority of your post.  You have shown no real support of transgender people or their rights, despite your repeated affirmations that you do.

7. You make a blatantly senseless and hateful post and show no respect for an entire group of people, however, you expect no hate mail, hateful responses, or anything of the kind.  This is ridiculous.

Now I will say what I really want to say.

TOTALLY CORRECT.

I’m not sure if you’re aware, but people that are transgender actually have different brain structures from those people that are not transgender (aka cisgender people).  So there is a BIOLOGICAL difference in this GIRL’S brain that is telling her she is a girl.  This is why she identifies as a girl.  In case you wanted to know, this has been proven both by physically slicing apart and analyzing various brain structures and by more advance technology that has come out since the 1980s, such as brain scans like MRIs, fMRIs, etc.

Since we’re playing the “biology identification game” we can’t go without mention of the existence of physically and chromosomally intersexed individuals.  What are you going to classify a person as who has two sets of differing genitalia, both of which might function?  I don’t know, but some people use very crude language to describe the individuals, which I will not mention here.  If we talk about chromosomes, you are PROBABLY XY, because you were assigned male at birth and have been happy with that role since.  However, you could have a different chromosomal makeup. Just thought you should know, before you get TOO secure with your masculinity.  XX would be the female version.  There are also variations like XXX, XXY,  XYY, etc.  How do you classify these individuals?  What about those that are intersexed that experience a completely and totally natural sex change at puberty which is entirely controlled by their body due to their DNA?  Some are happy with the changes, and others are not.  Tell me what you would do with these individuals.

You say we have the right to live our lives free of scrutiny.  Then why the HELL are you scrutinizing us?  You are invading our privacy.  I’m sure you’d be happy to tell someone what’s in your pants, providing you meet certain socially acceptable norms relevant to penis size.  However, if for some reason, you appreciated your privacy for religious or personal reasons, wouldn’t you want to keep that?  Well, we’d like to keep ours, and we do, for the most part.  

THIS MIGHT UNNERVE YOU.  I was born a female.  I use the men’s restroom EVERY SINGLE DAY.  NO ONE CARES.  No one looks twice at me.  They don’t care how I pee.  They are there to do their business and I am there to do mine.  I really don’t give a shit (well, I might if that’s what I went in there to do) what they are doing and they don’t care if I have a VAGINA.

And it’s not just Female to Male transpeople that merely want to use the restroom when they go into one.  I would venture to guess that over 99% of transwomen (male to female transgender people) are just that: transwomen.  That means they are more freaked about USING the bathroom than you are about having them IN the bathroom.  They have 5 million concerns that you will never understand while they are in there, such as whether or not they pass.  They are not there to harm you (consequently, if someone was, they are likely not actually trans), they just want to take a piss, dammit.  Or maybe a shit.  Who knows?  Who cares?  It’s just a bathroom and they just want to use it.  You should care as much about what is in someone’s pants as what is coming out of their ass.

What would actually letting us live a life free of scrutiny be like for you?  That would mean not telling us how and when we can identify the way we want to.  That would mean not policing our genitals or our identities.  That would mean we are allowed to be physically, medically, and psychologically safe and taken care of, as everyone else is.  So if you have a problem with OUR health care, you should have problem with EVERYONE’S health care.  Did you know that the attempted suicide rate for transgender people is 41%.  The national average is 1.6%.  This is NOT due to “mental illness” or instability.   This is most commonly a result of the fact that we feel stuck in the wrong bodies (remember from the beginning of my post?  Our brains are telling us this because they are biologically different).  The safest, most effective treatment for a transperson (proven by several published studies) is hormonal and surgical treatment IF THEY DEEM IN NECESSARY FOR THEIR PERSONAL TRANSITION.  That means NOT ALL TRANS PEOPLE *WANT* SURGERY. 

That may be hard to wrap your binary infused brain around, but not everyone fits under the titles man or woman.  Did you ever notice that not all women wear fancy dresses all the time?  Not all men dress the same either.  Everyone’s gender identity is a bit different.  Yours is different from the person that sat next you in the last class you took, etc.  So the idea that there are some people in between “man” and “woman” should, actually, not be terribly shocking to anyone.  For some reason, it terrifies people.  It might terrify you.  I don’t know.

So we need to have a talk about about penises and vaginas.  For real.  Why does a penis make a person male?   Why does your definition of male read “person with a penis?”  Some people’s definition of a woman would be “person without a penis.”   How would you classify a person with no genitalia either due to birth defect or surgical procedure? Eunuch?  That’s no longer an acceptable term in our society.  Many people just assume that if a person gets their penis cut off they are suddenly a girl.  WRONG.  Women have their own genitalia that makes them special.  Clitorises and vaginas.  Plus, despite the fact that we have a two gender system in the United States, there are cultures with three genders, or, surprisingly enough even six genders.

Did you know that at birth someone measured the size of your baby penis and decided, based on it’s size, that you were a boy?  Before that, even though you had a penis, you were sexless/genderless.  At birth, clitorises and penises are remarkably the same.  If a baby’s clitoris is too large, sometimes, the doctors will recommend raising the child as a boy.  If the penis is too small, they will encourage the parents to let them make a vagina and have the parents raise the child as a girl.  Disturbing, right?  Thought so.  Do you even want to guess how many people have been unhappy with the doctors’ decisions?  What’s the harm in leaving it and letting the child decide a few years down the road so they don’t have to go through the oppression transpeople do.

Maybe something that would help you would be to get some terms straightened out.

Sex: What’s in your pants.

Gender: What’s in your brain.

Gender expression: Your translation of what is in your brain to how you look to everyone else.

I need to pause to quote you: “i’ll respect your status as a transgender individual, and treat you accordingly, but i don’t care that you call yourself a woman, if you’re a man, you’ll be referred to and identified by society as one until you change your anatomy…. “

So a few notes.  You’re not respecting our statuses as transgender individuals.  You are treating us like we are not people, not in control of ourselves.  You are deciding for us what we are, when, in fact, we have the right to self-identify.  Also, it’s not actually true that society will refer to us transfolk and identify us as the gender we were assigned at birth until we change our anatomy.  For instance: my voice dropped before I had my double mastectomy, so people started reading me as male because I bound my chest, so it was not apparent that I had “female bits” there.  So, despite your “theory,” society was in fact recognizing me as male.  If you had met me on the street, you would have done the same, until, of course, I told you that I was a pre-operative transman.  Many of us “pass” quite well without surgery, both transmen and transwomen alike and will be read as our preferred genders by society at large whether or not you like it, whether or not we’ve had surgery.

Finally, how DARE you ask for a stimulating debate without providing fodder for one.  However, this is my response, in an appropriate “stimulating debate” manner.

You seem so very eager to post proof of other things on your blog.  You didn’t post proof of this one however.  I will say that if you go through the history of your original post, there is ONE PERSON who says “Die. Cis. Scum.” However, there are not mass multitudes of trans people screaming for your death by any means.  Please, continue to exaggerate to get sympathy.  I don’t want you to die.  By your inaccuracies and ignorance (yes, you are ignorant and don’t seem to understand the meaning of that word) I can attempt to educate others.  So thanks, buddy.
